It was just so jolly popular...

The prego roll with chilli sauce
Agdervanic Caterers, the caterers at The Old Edwardian Society, always listens to the will of the membership.

It is therefore not surprising that the Caterers have again listened to the members' request to repeat last week's special as the specilal for 3 to 7 December 2018.

The ever popular special is a Prego Roll with Chips and Salad. The 120 gram steak is complimented  by the chilli sauce which lovingly smothers the steak.

Added by a desert of ice-cream that follows the prego roll, the meal is well worth  the amount of
The ice-cream.
R70.00 as charged for such  meal.

Of course the special does not attract the 10% discount that is generously given by Agdervanic to all Old Edwardian Society members on meals and beverages.

All those attending the Society's AGM on 3 December 2018 (starting at 18H00) are welcome to indulge themselves.

Praying for a good meal?

The prego roll with chilli sauce.
Agdervanic Caterers have done it again.

This week's special is a Prego Roll with Chips and Salad. The 120 gram steak is complimented  by the chilli sauce which lovingly smothers the steak.

Added by a desert of ice-cream that follows the prego roll, the meal is well worth  the amount of R70.00 as charged for such  meal.

Of course the special does not attract the 10% discount that is generously given by Agdervanic to all Old Edwardian Society members on meals and beverages.

Having had this prego for lunch, I strongly recommend such special to one and all.

Have it, you'll also say, you're welcome.

Executive Committee - Old Edwardian Society

Monday 29 October 2018

If you go down to the club today...

Truly scrumptious.
Although the Old Edwardian Society is having a Special General Meeting (SGM) on 29 October 2018 at 18H00 in the King's Tavern, the Society's caterers (Agdervanic Caterers) continue to deliver in spite of everything that is going on around them.

The special for the week starting 29 October 2018 ending on 2 November 2018 is a (very) healthy chicken salad.

I can honestly say that I do not know how they are making any money on it. For only R60.00 it is a fantastic meal, and even I wondered how I was going to finish - there is just so much...

The special is truly scrumptious, and I cannot wait until I have another.

Please note that the 10% discount afforded to members of food and beverages do not apply to the weekly specials.

Thursday 25 October 2018

Friday, 26 October 2018 is your last chance.

Most desireable.
Agdervanic Caterers, the Old Edwardian caterers, continues to outperform.

The weekly specials are eagerly awaited, and then devoured by Society members and their guests.

This week's special certainly was popular - and for good reason.

After all, where else can you get a Sirloin Steak, Egg, Chips and Salad, along with one drink (Castle, Castle Lite, Hansa, Black Label, glass of wine, or cold drink) for only R100.00. The meal is served with one sauce. The choice of sauce is either cheese, mushroom, or pepper.

A good price, and a good meal...

However, the special ends on 26 October 2018, so if you do not rush over to the Society, you'll miss it. Then you'll be sorry!

Please note that the 10% discount given on food and beverages does not apply to the weekly specials.

Come along and support our boys!

The Old Edwardian Society's indomitable Premier Cricket team.
The Old Edwardian Society is renown for its standards.

This is particularly true for the cricket section. Under the astute leadership and direction of Mark Patterson, the cricket sub-club continues to perform well from year-to-year.

The Old Edwardian Society's Premier Cricket side are playing in the semi-final, and hopefully the final, at the Wanderers Stadium on Saturday, 3 November 2018. The first semi final game will be between Wanderers vs Delfos at 10H30.

The Old Edwardian's semi-final will start at 13H30.

The final will be at 17H30.

Entry fees are free, and it is not to be missed if you love cricket...

Next Happy Hour Speaker - Simone Bishop

How beautiful does that look?

Beef Kebab (sirloin) with chips and salad.
As usual Agdervanic Caterers, at the Old Edwardian Society, for the 17th and 21st September 2018 have produced a wonderful special.

The special is none other than a Beef Kebab (sirloin) served with chips and salad for only R70.00.

The meal itself is utterly delectable.

The caterers have always done the Old Edwardian Society proud, and produce really good food for its members.

The food is good solid fare, and is not wanting, no matter how you measure it.

Not only that, but all fully-paid-up members also get a 10% discount on all food and drinks - except specials.

Thursday 13 September 2018

A welcome return.

The special for 10th to 14th September 2018 - Chicken Curry and Rice, and Sambals.
Agdervanic Caterers, the caterers that service The Old Edwardian Society, have once again outdone themselves.

For only R60.00, members are able to tuck into this week's special being Chicken Curry and Rice,  and Sambals.

Having devoured the meal on both Tuesday and Wednesday, I found the meal to be quite satisfying on both days, and find myself to be salivating at just the thought of it.

Please note that the 10% discount on all food and drinks given to all fully-paid-up members does not apply to specials.

Monday 23 July 2018

Flying off to the club...

Upon receiving notice of the special for the 23rd to 27th July 2018, I am quickly going to jump into my car and 'fly' off to the club.

Chef has always done chicken well at the club, and such remains a firm favourite of mine.

If the grilled chicken wings are as good as the other chicken dishes on offer, then the meal will be well worth it and a good way of spending my time at the club.

The soups prepared at the club are also a delight. Thick creamy soups perfect for a cold winter's day.

What more can one say?

The caterers have always done the Old Edwardian Society proud, and produce really good food for its members.

The food is good solid fare, and is not wanting, no matter how you measure it.

Not only that, but all fully-paid-up members also get a 10% discount on all food and drinks - except specials.

Skewer winter!

Tired of the cold?

Aren't we all?

Once again Old Ed's caterers (Agdervanic Caterers) step into the breach to provide warmth in these cold winter months.

This weeks specials see a beef kebab served with  chips and salad, as well as a creamy mushroom soup.

Both specials are, well, special and are a wonderful treat.

Personally, I find it difficult to choose between them, and just end up having them both.

One is really hard pressed to find meals as good as what you can have at Old Eds.

The standard is consistently high and always enjoyable.

Please note that the 10% members' discount does not apply to specials.

Tuesday 3 July 2018

For a cold winters day - sorry, week!

South Africa is currently in Winter's firm grasp.  With abundant rain in the fairest of all Capes, snow covering parts of the Drakensberg, and an icy chill on the highveld. Added to the looming petrol price hike, there does not seem to be much to celebrate in a cold Johannesburg.

However, Old Ed's caterers have swooped in to rescue all members from such times,  and have once again produced specials that will warm the cockles of all our hearts.

The current offering of the mushroom soup and mutton curry are a delight.

Both are firm favourites of mine, and are most enjoyable.

It is worth braving Johannesburg's traffic to go to  the not  club to have the meals, even if you are not participating in any of the many sporting codes offered at the Society.

Firmly ensconced behind one, or both, of the specials, all your cares simply disappear as you give yourself over to the specials.

Please, though, remember that the 10% member discount does not apply to the specials - the specials are special enough!

Thursday 21 June 2018

A fun quiz night.

Old Ed's reputation in sports is truly astounding!
OE hockey is hosting a quiz night to raise funds for the hockey club. It’s teams of 10 people. Please invite family and friends to join in the festivities. It promises to be a great night. Below are the details.

Date: 27 July 2018
Venue: Old Eds
Time: 18:30 for 19:00
Costs: R120 pp

There will be drinks and food to buy on the night. There will also be bingo in between all the chaos.

Payments must be made directly into the Old Eds account. Please use your surname and quiz night as your reference.

Hockey is also looking for some prizes. If you can donate a prize or your company can, please let the club administrator know? Remember the prize needs to be shared with 10 people.

Please can you confirm with the club administrator if you will be entering a team as soon as possible so we can make the necessary arrangements.

They just keep coming...

The standard of food at the Old Edwardian Society is renown for its consistency and affordability.

Agdervanic Caterers, every week, produce a new special which members can sink their teeth into.

Thus, from 18 to 22 June 2018, there is another two great specials.

The steak, egg, chips, and salad served with one sauce and a free Bacardi Breezer is a delight. The meal is  great for these cold winter days and nights. Of course, my only complaint is that there is only one sauce.

The sauces at Old Eds, in my opinion, make the meal. Even my basset, Fred, agrees, and goes gaga over the sauces - which I take home for him.

The healthy Butternut Soup is too becoming a firm favourite, with many of the members extolling the virtues of such soup. A cheap alternative in these days of rising costs, the Old Edwardian Society, and its caterers, are working hand-in-hand to deliver good quality meals to its members.

Please remember that the 10% discount applicable to meals and refreshments does not apply to the weekly specials - the specials are special enough!

Tuesday 29 May 2018

A super special.

The caterers at the Old Edwardian Society, Agdervanic Caterers, have done it again.

Following up on their hugely successful special last week, I feel that, the caterers have pulled the rabbit-from-the-hat this week.

The steaks at Old Eds are well known, and remain a firm favourite of all who try them.

So, when seeing that the special for the week (28 May - 1 June 2018)  is a T-Bone steak, there is nothing that anyone can do to keep me away from the club.

Added to the fact that it comes with, the now legendary, sauces, I am beginning to wonder why I am not there already.

The healthier option, being the chicken stir-fry, is too a fantastic offing, and very popular amongst those who are a little more health conscious.

Please remember that the 10% discount offered to all members on food and beverages, does not apply to the specials - the specials are special enough!

Tuesday 22 May 2018

Get it while you can!

There is such demand for the specials done by Agdervanic Caterers at the Old Edwardian Society, that there is barely a week that the specials do not sell out.

Even when the specials do sell out, Agdervanic Catering always makes a plan to further accommodate members.

Members flock to the club to take advantage of the specials, and the sauces provided continue to be a firm favourite during the cold winter days.

It should be noted however, that the 10% discount extended to members on food and beverages does not extend to the weekly specials, as they are specials after all.

Agdervanic Catering is going above-and-beyond the call of duty to cater to the Society and provide meals that are competitive on these days of rising costs.

Monday 14 May 2018

Sauces to be believed.

If it were not enough for the caterers to give members a 10% discount on meals and beverages (T&C's apply), every week, the caterers put on a special to lure the members in.

Last week's special (mutton curry), proved to be enormously popular, and the caterers had to make special arrangements to cater for the increased demand.

This week sees the return of two favourites, the sirloin steak and the chicken stir fry.

However, for me, it is the sauces that sauces that capture my attention.

I just love those creamy sauces, and there are few who will disagree.

Lather the sauce on your meal, or use the sauce sparingly, whatever takes your fancy, and you have a meal to enjoy and relish.

Tuesday 8 May 2018

Another great special.

The caterers at the Old Edwardian Society (OES) continue to amaze and astound.

Agdervanic Caterers have produced two superb specials for the week 7 to 11 May 2018.

The mutton curry is, as always, up to the caterers' usual standard,  while for those unlike myself, there is a very healthy stir-fry option.

Any member not taking advantage of this week's special should rush out to the club as soon as possible.

You know that you want to!

Tuesday 24 April 2018

An extended offer...

The special for week 4.
Many members will note that the special on offer for week 4 is exactly the same as the special that was on offer for week three.

Agdervanic, the caterers at the Old Edwardian Society, listen to the requests from the Old eds membership, and at huge request, decided to again provide the week 3 special.

Having just returned from my travels, this could not be at a more opportune time for me as it saves me having to cook dinner for my basset. Yes, Fred, you are getting a cheese burger for dinner...

Members must please note that the 10% discount does not apply to specials.

Saturday 10 March 2018

Wonderful, wonderful specials.

Specials for the week 12 to 16 March 2018.
I have almost eaten my way around the world, but I really do enjoy coming back to Old Eds, time-after-time, to eat.

The 'Specials' are always good, and most satisfying.

Do try them, you will not be disappointed.

Friday 16 February 2018

The caterers went all out and are to be commended.

Mouthwatering desert.
On Wednesday 14th February 2018 Agdervanic Catering hosted a world-class Valentines Day dinner for the members. The Kings Tavern bar overlooking the Bowling Greens was the venue.

Tables were set in Red and White with Roses and tealight candles. Romantic music played softly in the background to enhance the mood.

The 4-course meal consisted of a starter, slow-cooked Lamb Shanks with mash and veg, Strawberry cheesecake and excellent Cappucino to finish.

Members are encouraged to continue to attend such themed dinner evenings at Old Eds.

Monday 12 February 2018

Fantastic specials.

Fantastic meals at fantastic prices.
Agdervanic Catering at the Old Edwardian Society has certainly gone the extra mile with the 'specials' for 12 to 16 February 2018.

Friday 19 January 2018

Go on, join us - you know you want to...

As a club with such a rich history in hockey, the previous Old Ed’s women’s team were made up of several national and provincial players, the ladies side of 2017 were looking forward to proving their worth.

Under fantastic leadership of the committee, the Old Ed’s ladies side began the season with a 9-0 victory.

The start was indicative of the season ahead. After finishing second in the league, with only two losses throughout the season, including playoffs, the team was promoted.

After boasting a squad of sixteen, all of whom added to the tally of seventy six goals scored in eighteen games, we say goodbye to Sam Thorne, the intrepid manager and forward as well as to Natalie Duligal, who was awarded the Most Improved Player of the 2017 season.

Looking to continue Old Ed’s  fine form in hockey in 2018 and as well as spearheading a movement where the club offers places to energetic school girls and seasoned hockey players, we hope to grow the ladies side into a big enough squad where we can host two sides; one competing in the second league and one in the fourth league.

Call for Nominations for the Position of President of the Old Edwardian Society

The ever dynamic Richard McEvoy (president 2015 - 2017).
At Old Edwardian Society's AGM held on 11 December 2017 important changes were made to the Constitution in respect of the position of the Society's President.
The most important change is that the requirements needed by the candidate have been changed in order to allow a greater number of members to be eligible to hold this position.

As a result, the President of the Society now only needs to:
  • Be a member of good standing of the Society of not less than five years of consecutive membership if a past pupil of King Edward VII Schools, or
  • Be a member of good standing of the Society of not less than ten years of consecutive membership if not a past pupil of King Edward VII Schools.
Since the manner of electing the President has largely remained unchanged, in that an electoral college consisting of the Executive Committee of the Society and the Chairpersons of the Sub-Clubs of the Society elects the President from nominations received from the Society, the Executive hereby requests members of the Society to submit nominations to the Administrator (mwoldeds@mweb.co.za) by no later than 17H00 on Tuesday, 23 January 2018.

Please note that all nominations must be accompanied by a letter of acceptance as signed by the nominee.

All members, should however note that no person may accept nomination or appointment as the President if to his knowledge he is ineligible or disqualified from being a director of companies in terms of section 69 (8) of the Companies Act No. 71 of 2008.

Please be mindful that when nominating the President of the Society the following should be considered (not limited to);
  • Conduct oneself fitting of such an Honour
  • Attendance of all monthly Executive Meetings
  • Attendance of all monthly Sub Club Meetings
  • Be an active member on the Society Executive
  • Attendance of all ceremonial and general Society and Sub Club functions and events
  • Present an annual report at the Society Annual General Meeting
  • Attendance of the Society Traditions Committee meetings
  • Attendance of all ceremonial King Edward VII Preparatory (KEPS) and King Edward VII School (KES) functions and events
  • Laying of the Society wreath at the School’s annual Armistice memorial service held at the School Cenotaph
  • Attendance of all King Edward Educational Trust (KEET) quarterly meetings held at the School
  • Represent the Society at KEET functions and events
